Colgate recently terminated its partnership with Chan while MILO clarified that their partnership has ended and it is currently not working with Chan. Using these two brands as an example, Cheng said consumers will not necessarily change their toothpaste brand or stop drinking a malty beverage just because of what Chan said. At the end of the day, it is still brand awareness. Cheng also has a gripe with brands terminating their relationship with the influencers and releasing a statement on the controversy.
She argued that not only do brands get to promote their brand for free on media outlets who report the termination, they can also elevate their social standing and come across as a good company doing the right thing.
She also pointed out that people are generally unaware that most campaigns are on a one-off basis, explaining:. Meaning you pay me for a post, I do it, I get the money, you get our publicity.
Our relationship has ended. You don't get to jump out of the shadows and be like 'Surprise! I also terminate Xiaxue! Cheng added that it is "triple advantage" for all companies to drop influencers like hot potatoes at the slightest sign of controversy. Drawing from her own experience, Cheng brought up the example of a neon sign brand that released a statement about terminating her when she met with controversy last year. The brand subsequently saw an increase in followers.
You are just a model in a picture. You are not you, you are just there as part of the photo. Your captions are just stupid quotes about life copied from somewhere. Laughs At least there is this interview part. Why do so many people want to be influencers? Which are you more impressed by? Xiaxue's make-up skillz or her Photoshop skillz? Either way, both contribute to the version of herself she puts out on platforms such as Instagram. Oh yes, Photoshop.
But you, too, post pictures of yourself where you look quite different from your real self. Oh, I think the huge difference is that I admit that I Photoshop my pictures. Laughs Everyone who knows me knows lah. Why do you make yourself look drastically slimmer and taller? Why not post more realistic photos? To me, aesthetics still matter. Every girl wants to take a photo of herself with nicely-styled hair and make-up.
The Photoshop is just extra make-up lor. I think the end product looks nicer. And do you mind? Do you still have one of the top Instagram accounts in Singapore? JJ Lin is the Singapore celeb with the most followers , I think. Oh, he has 1. Jamie Chua is catching up [with me].
Fann Wong has K. How can you stay on top? Like if you post about make-up, then your whole feed is all beauty stuff. If your feed is very uniformed-looking and perfect, people will follow you.
My pics are not always the most beautiful and perfect pics. Who's that girl? A nip here, a tuck there Your YouTube channel is still growing?
I have K subscribers. Have you seen my ISIS make-up tutorial [where she shows how to achieve the look of a bearded ISIS fighter who tried to disguise himself as a woman with hilariously garish make-up]? People are very angry about it. Laughs They are annoyed even before they watch it — you go and watch lah.
A combination of both, I guess. To me, the picture of the guy was really, really funny. Do it! I try to anticipate what people will say, and have a counter. Some influencers post pictures for free stuff, some only post about stuff they like, while some post only if they're paid.
How do we know what to trust? Like if someone sends me make-up or stuff. Things got a bit better after the whole Gushcloud expose [in , where she accused the influencer marketing company of inflating revenues and blogger stats, and of pretending that paid posts were not ads]. People got a bit more careful, but then it got way worse, and now, no one even talks about a post being sponsored anymore. What are we supposed to do with the info that a post is sponsored?
Some magazines get flak for over-Photoshopping models or celebs. Do you think mags should stop Photoshopping? No way! They should in no way pander to people who say we should just use raw photos with ugly curves bulging out.
You should know that these are models who work very hard on their bodies. They eat freaking celery every day and they are suffering for this. These are beautifully-shot and edited photos with a whole bunch of professionals making sure there is perfect lighting and that every single strand of hair is perfect for you to appreciate.
